The Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council has announced an extension to the licensing deadline for all TVET providers.
All institutions – particularly private ones that offer technical and vocational training without a valid licence had been given up to September 15, 2025 to apply for a licence.
According to the statement issued by the Council Executive Director, the deadline has now been extended to December 15.
The licensing of TVET providers is enshrined in Section 125 of the TVET Act, which came into effect on March 15, 2025.
Section 125 (1) (c) of the Act stipulates that, a TVET provider or institution that was operating without a valid licence or any other valid authorization, shall comply with the provisions of this Act within six months from the date of commencement of this Act, by applying for a licence, in case of a private TVET provider or by the Minister making a statutory instrument in case of a public TVET provider. The six months’ period within which institutions had to apply for the license, expired on September 15, 2025.
“However, the TVET Council at its 4th Council Meeting held on 8th September 2025 resolved to extend this period by three (3) months to 15th December 2025 to allow for a smooth transition in accordance with the law. This is therefore to notify the institutions to prepare for this licensing process accordingly,” the TVET Council press statement reads in part.
“The extension shall commence from 15th September 2025 and expire on 15th December 2025,” it adds.
