Following the conclusion of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Phyllis Chemutai hosted Team Uganda at the Ministry of Education and Sports on Tuesday in recognition of the team’s participation and achievement on the international stage.
The meeting brought together competitors, experts, training managers, partners and other stakeholders to celebrate the team’s performance, dedication and hard work at the international skills competition, held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27, 2026.

Uganda’s participation was highlighted by a Medal of Excellence in Cooking, earned by competitor Paul Terran Lugobe, marking an important achievement for Uganda on the international skills stage.
The gathering also provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of investing in skills development and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a pathway to unlocking young people’s potential, expanding employment opportunities and supporting economic growth.

Through participation in WorldSkills competitions, Uganda continues to expose its young talents to international occupational standards, professional networks and opportunities to benchmark their skills against competitors from around the world.
WorldSkills Uganda appreciates its partners; Enabel, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB), TVET Council, and all other stakeholders that contributed to Team Uganda’s participation in Shanghai.

WorldSkills Uganda congratulates all the competitors who represented the country with pride. Their skills demonstrate the potential of Uganda’s young people and the value of strengthening skills development to meet the demands of the changing world of work.
