In preparation for the National Skills Competitions, WorldSkills Federation Uganda (WSF) organized Northern Region Skills Competitions at Kiryandongo Technical Institute on October 24, 2025.
Skills competitions are part of the WSF activities to promote Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Uganda.

A brass band parade marked the opening of the competitions as competitors, experts, principals of institutions and other stakeholders marched to celebrate skills excellence.
The event brought together talented young competitors from various institutions across the northern region to showcase their skills, creativity, and technical excellence in different trades, namely: welding and metal fabrication, plumbing, electrical installation, fashion and design, building and construction, and woodwork.

The competitions served as a platform to inspire young people’s participation in skills development and to demonstrate the growing potential of TVET in shaping Uganda’s workforce.
Outstanding competitors in each trade qualified for the National Skills Competitions, where they will compete with their peers from other regions across the country. Winners at national level will advance to WorldSkills 2026 international competitions in Shanghai, China.

At the international stage in Shanghai, Uganda’s competitors will compete and benchmark their skills against competitors from around the world, gaining exposure, experience, and inspiration to raise the standards of skills excellence back home.
WorldSkills competitions play a pivotal role in advancing skills development, equip young people with market-relevant skills that improve their job readiness and competitiveness in both local and international labour markets, strengthen TVET institutions, foster innovation and productivity, encourage collaboration and partnerships, and provide a platform for Ugandan youth to represent the country on continental and global stages.

WorldSkills Federation Uganda continues to empower young people with the skills needed to thrive in the job market while positioning Uganda as an active participant in the global skills movement.
